1 - This drive does write Blu Ray with support for BDXL™ discs. 2 - The drive does support USB 3.0 but as to the question of playback on a TV, that would be a function of the TV. http://www.lg.com/us/burners-drives/lg-BE16NU50-external-blu-ray-dvd-drive
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have a new LG OLED 55" TV with USB ports. I don't know that these are USB 3.0 or 2.0, I haven't seen any specs saying anything more that that it has "USB" ports. I have a 2Tb USB 2.0 HDD hooked to my LG with movies on it. MP4, AVI, raw DVD .VOB files etc. etc. Plays them from the hard drive just fine. No reason it wouldn't play the same files from a DVD or BlueRay disc. Just a suggestion. Get a 2.5" HDD in a external enclosure, plug it in and you are ready to go. 2.5" drives work just fine with the power from a single USB outlet. No external power supply needed. Much easier than using DVD/BluRay media because you can add and delete files as needed.
