“I want to put a washer pan under this machine but I'm wondering if it will be in the way of opening the drain pump filter cover? Can anyone tell me how far the opening is from the bottom of the machine. Thank you”

The bottom edge of the drain pump filter cover is approximately 2 inches from the bottom of the machine measured from where the feet of the machine touch the floor.

High Efficiency All-in-one Front Load Washer and Electric Ventless Dryer in White, Model # WM3488HW doesn't have enough clearance underneath for you to place a drain pan under it so you will need to get a drain pan that the whole machine can sit in. You can use the width and depth dimensions as a guideline for what size drain pan you will need to get. ^CP
