A refrigerator that is "Garage Ready" essentially has a small heater that tricks the thermostat in the fridge into running your compressor so that your freezer keeps your freezer items frozen. ^Daphane

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The term is misleading. The real issue is not location but temperature, and applies to any room that falls below 50°F. When it gets that cold, the sensors may be fooled into thinking that the refrigerator interior is cold enough so the compressor won't turn on. As a result, the freezer gets too warm and food thaws. Garage-ready models have a little heater near the sensor. It turns on when the temperature gets too cold so that the sensors won't be affected by the room temperature. Again, this applies to any location that goes below 50°F, not just the garage.
