It has limitations but does a very good job. You must have a karaoke mic plugged in, though. It takes out the range of tones from the "lead" track and it depends on the record but with an isolated vocal on the song, it takes it out almost 100%, but sometimes takes out the lead instrument as well. NOTE it also creates an echo effect on the track which kind of changes the sound. I use it for fun and it's way better than singing OVER the existing vocal though! The key changer also only works with the mic, but that works great with or without vocal cancelling, but allows easier sing-alongs to the real record.
