Line Level is a specified strength of an audio signal used to transmit analog sound between audio components such as CD and DVD Players, Television sets, audio amplifiers or mixing consoles. The signal is too weak for driving headphones and speakers. It is intended to drive a load impedance of 10,000 ohms (10 kΩ) with only a few volts which requires only a minimal current. Connecting a low-impedance load such a speaker (usually 4 to 8 Ohms) to it will short circuit the output circuit.
