The menu has both auto & manual scan for HDTV, TV, HD-CABLE, and Cable. It might be able to grab a channel or two, once in a while, without a HD-Antenna, but you will need one to get decent reception & increase the number of channels that come in. I have one connected to the coax input and get about 20 channels in my area.
