“One review says the unit has "a proprietary drain hose that comes off the back of the machine, so it doesn't sit flush with standard cabinets". The review says this means the control panel is visible and not hidden as it should be. Is this a common issue?”

This is true. It sticks out 2 1/2 inches. In both photos the dishwasher door is completely closed
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.On our installation when the door is closed the control panel is under the countertop. You have to have the door opened about 6 inches to access panel, make selection and press start. You have 4 seconds after pressing start to close the door.
