Although it is recommended that you replace the water filter every 6 months, there may be an occasion when the water filter indicator turns on prior to 6 months if it becomes too clogged with contaminants or when the water dispenser output decreases or your ice cubes are smaller than usual. A water filter does come with the refrigerator. ^CP
