• I'm not sure if it's painted or baked on, but it's definitely not true black stainless steel. It will scratch easily if you're not careful. We were told that it's not recommended to put anything like magnets on the front because that might scratch the finish.

• It's painted on. Any little Nick or scratch and paint comes right off.
