“If one does not want the round ice in the freezer and instead wants to use the area for freezer space, can it be turned off while still having ice for the door?”

Yes you can turn off the bottom ice maker. You can also turn the door Off as well,they both have separate switches

Yes, the Craft icemaker can be turned off without effecting the in door icemaker. ^Daphane

yes you can turn the craft ice maker off and take out the tray for more room
