I had the exact same issue with my Sony TV. It would do it for a few minutes and usually settle on the external Audio System, otherwise I would have to go in to settings and manually select Audio System. I couldn't deal with it after a week so took it back and was fortunate to find an open box Sony Soundbar, which is in all honesty worth the little extra. FWIW I tested a Samsung soundbar from another room with the Sony TV and it worked much better.
