The Shared Composite/Component ports in the back of the LG 32 inch Class 720p HD TV (31.5'' Diag), Model # 32LM505BBUA are inputs that you can connect to the outputs on your older VCR to playback through the TV. The TV does not have any outputs that you can connect to your VCR to record on the VCR. Your VCR needs to be connected to outputs so it can receive signals from the outputs of a connected device like a Cable Set-Top Box to record. However, the other issue with trying to record TV programs with your older VCR is that the signals from a Cable Set-Top box are in digital format & your VCR is an analog unit & the signals are too large to record on a VCR so that will not work. You need a DVR that has a hard drive with enough storage capacity to record TV programs from a Cable Set-Top box...^IFV
