You may need to contact Best Buy's Customer Service for verification, but you generally cannot directly "upgrade" a 24-month Best Buy protection plan to a 5-year plan once purchased, but you may be able to extend coverage depending on the plan type. If you have a monthly Best Buy Protection plan via a Total membership, it may be renewable, whereas pre-paid Geek Squad Protection (GSP) plans cannot usually be extended. If your protection is part of the Best Buy Total™ membership, you can often continue coverage on a month-to-month basis after the initial 24 months, provided your membership remains active. If you purchased a flat-fee 24-month GSP plan, it generally cannot be extended or upgraded to a 5-year plan once it expires. Some customers report being able to renew 24-month plans for an additional year, but this is not guaranteed for all products.
