As to whether or not the LG - 4.3 Cu. Ft. 14-Cycle Washer and 8-Cycle Dryer Electric Combo, Model # WM3997HWA is sufficient for a family of 5 will depend on how frequently you do your laundry and on how big your loads are. Obviously a larger capacity allows you to do more laundry in less time since you are able to wash bigger loads. You may also want to consider getting a stand alone washer and dryer so that while washing one load you can dry another and do not have to stand around waiting for the machine to complete the wash cycle before you can dry. You will also want to keep in mind that in combo units such as the WM3997HWA, the wash capacity is twice that of the drying capacity, meaning that if you wash a full load, you would have to take out half of the load for drying...^IFV

It does take 2.5 to 4 hours per load of wash, and you CANNOT overload the machine or it will never dry. You have to think about the clothing size increasing as it dries, so just because it fits, doesn't mean it's a good idea. You'll want to program a load to start before you are awake in the morning so that it's done when you get up, and then you can do several more over the course of a day, but you do have to alter how you schedule your laundry.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.We have a family of 4 (3 adults, 1 teen) and it works just fine for us. We sometimes use the overnight setting, and do have to coordinate so we are not each doing wash on the same day, although several loads a day is perfectly do-able. We LOVE it.

I bought this unit to keep up with the massive amount of laundry I process each week. This unit seems to do the trick very well. I consider this unit just like I do my dishwasher; something to load throughout the day and turn on at night to wash while we are sleeping. The clothes are clean and dry when we wake up and the loads are small enough to fold in less than 10 minutes. I love the size of the washer because I can still wash my large comforters without ever using the laundromat again. Overall it is a great purchase. It fits inside my kitchen where my small pantry used to be and it remains the best decision since. I only hope they continue selling this size so the price is worth it.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.if you spaced the loads out, probably. it also has delayed start so you can have clothes finish as you wake up or come home from work. Loads take 3-3.5 hours. if you plan accordingly and want it to work, it will work. if you go into it thinking it's going to fail then definitely look elsewhere.
