“How does the pause button work? How can you add a garment once a load starts? Since it's front loading, does it drain out all the water? Or is there a sensor that allows it to open below a certain water level?”

The pause button is great - yes you can stop the machine at any moment, there are no worries with the water draining out.

Ft. 14-Cycle Washer and 8-Cycle Dryer Electric Combo - Model # WM3997HWA is too high, the door locks and cannot be opened. To open the door while washing, you would need to use the Rinse + Spin feature, but that would cause the water to drain. Using the PAUSE/START button to add garments is not covered in the owner's manual, but after you have initiated the wash cycle, it may be possible to pause the wash before the water levels get too high and add more garments, but you will only have a limited amount of time to do this before the machine drains, loses its settings and shuts off. You must also remember to press the PAUSE/START button after adding the garments to re-start the wash cycle...IFV
