This is the high efficiency / low water of the modern washing machine. You can set it to have extra water, I do that especially for things like down pillows and comforters. I find it works all right for clothes to have the lower water level although I admit I doubted that they (the he low water washers) worked for years. I decided to give it a try with this washing machine and I've been pretty satisfied

High-Efficiency Top Load Washer with SlamProof® Glass Lid - White, Model # WT6100CW, is a High-Efficiency washer that is designed for use with only HE (High-Efficiency) detergents. High-Efficiency (HE) detergents require less water compared to regular detergents. HE detergents are specifically formulated to work with high-efficiency washing machines, which use less water and have a more powerful spin cycle than traditional machines. This design helps save water and energy, making HE detergents a more environmentally friendly choice. The washer automatically adjusts the water level for the type and size of wash load for best results and maximum efficiency. This is a high-efficiency washer, and the water levels may be much lower than you expect. This is normal, and cleaning/rinsing performance will not be compromised. You can add extra water to a cycle by pressing the Options button repeatedly to select Water Plus before starting a cycle to add extra water to the cycle. Using the Water Plus option increases the cycle time because of the added fill time required. To add water during a cycle, pause the cycle before selecting Water Plus. If the washer has already reached its maximum fill level, pressing Water Plus has no effect. If you add the Water Plus option to the Normal cycle, it automatically changes to the Deep Wash cycle before starting. You cannot select the Water Plus option for the Normal cycle...^Ivan.
