I have this set, and had the previous generation for five years at a home I just recently sold. Not sure about the paint issue, but it may also share symptoms with the gritty residue around the seal. These seals tend to always be a magnet for lint and/or grit. I have always kept a microfiber cloth nearby to wipe down the seal and door window if we have had a long weekend of laundry. However, I often wonder if there is cause for any of this by the length, and number of turns, of the dryer vent pipe. These are strong machines and push a lot of vent air, but they have just as much trouble pushing air through long exhausts. Especially with several bends! Additionally, I believe, if there is lint built up in the exhaust vent it would cause a "dirtier" door and seal, otherwise the lint, grit, and exhaust would continue freely through the system. It is possible this could be the reason... It easily could also not be the reason. LG has worked very well for me in the past and you may also be able to contact customer support for more information.
