Having read on another review site that the machine locks and there was no way to interrupt and unlock it to get an item out, is this accurate? also, can temps be combination so as to do a hot wash and cold rinse as someone said? thanks null

When you press the Start/Pause button to begin the wash cycle on the ENERGY STAR® Qualified LG 4.5 cu. ft. Mega Capacity Top Load Washer in White, Model # WT7100CW, the lid locks and the Door Lock indicator lights up once a cycle has started. The indicator light stays on until the cycle is paused, stopped or has finished. If you need to add additional garments after the wash cycle has started, you will have to wait until the "Add Garment" light illuminates near the beginning of the wash cycle to indicate when it is safe to add items to the load. At that point, you can press the Start/Pause button to pause the cycle. The lid will unlock and you can add garments to the load and press the Start/Pause button to resume the cycle. The wash temp can be adjusted for most cycles. The rinse and spin cycle is only available with Cold water. ^CP

You can stop it at any time. 
 But don't wait too long or it will drain.
You can change temperature combinations, to suit your needs.

If you hit the PAUSE button you'll hear the lid unlock after several seconds.
