The remote uses IR (look for a small, red "window" on the front) to tell the TV what to do. Phones don't use IR. SO in order to use an app, the TV and phone must be on the same local network. Unfortunately, this model doesn't support WiFi, so an app that emulates an LG remote is out of the question.
