To ensure the game looks "normal" and avoids a stretched or distorted appearance, the monitor will display the image with black bars on the left and right sides (known as pillarboxing). This allows the 16:9 content to be presented accurately as the creators intended. If the setting were adjusted to fill the entire 32:9 screen, the image would indeed appear horizontally stretched.
