I had the same issue, I was like omg it doesn’t work but then I figured out that I should load detergent also in the pre wash section.

Simply fill a water bottle halfway with water and a few drops of liquid soap (not detergent), such as Dawn. Shake it up, and if there are a lot of bubbles, the water is not hard. If, on the other hand, you don't observe many bubbles, you may have hard water. Once you've determined whether or not you have hard water, you'll understand why you didn't see any suds in the washer.
