“Does this have the same "always on" display as the SP9YA? Or is there an option to turn the display off?”

• If you download the lg soundbar app you can set it to turn off automatically a few seconds after a button is pressed.

• The display turns off when the unit is off, but otherwise it is always on. It gets pretty dim when you aren’t actively interacting with it. I hope that helps.
