The LG washer will take either powder or liquid detergent, but I couldn't find any reference to the use of Pre-packaged detergents such as the Tide Pods. We use Tide HE liquid detergent and pour it into the dispenser drawer. It works great and we're very happy with the washer. If you want to use a powder detergent, you're supposed to remove the Blue liquid dispenser tray from the detergent drawer. This info is all on page 15 of the LG Washer User Manual.

High-Efficiency Top Load Washer with Steam in Graphite Steel, Model # WT7700HWA is designed for use with only High-Efficiency (HE) detergents, so if your pods are HE Detergent pods then you can use them in the washer. The pods can only be added into the tub but you will need to follow the manufacturer's instruction on their use and on when they should be added into the tub. ^CP
