“We have cabinets above where the washer will go. They start at 54 inches from the floor (height) and come out 12 inches from the wall (depth). My question is, when the lid of the washer is up, will it open or hit the cabinets?”

Yes it will if it is flush against the wall. However, if you move it a few inches from the wall it should be fine.
