A:Answer Generally, it is not safe to use a standard extension cord with an upright freezer, and most manufacturers prohibit it.
LG does NOT recommend using an extension cord with the 5.8 Cu. Ft. Upright Freezer with Direct Cooling System - PrintProof™ Stainless Steel Look, Model # LROFC0605V, due to potential fire hazards, voltage drops that damage the compressor, and safety risks.
If your outlet is out of reach, you can inquire about using a cord that is UL-listed (or ETL-listed) for safety verification, and the cord must have a 3-prong grounding plug and a 3-slot outlet to match the freezer's plug. You must use at least a 14-gauge cord, though a thicker 12-gauge "appliance cord" is safer for high startup surges, and the cord must be rated for at least 15 Amperes and 120 Volts. Use the shortest possible heavy-duty extension cord, ideally under 6–12 feet.
The use of an extension cord described above is NOT an official response, so you would do well to verify this with a qualified, licensed electrician or with the cord's manufacturer...^Ivan.
