I've tried to research why the 7700 and 8500 unit models are different other than the 3D specification with no success and a bit skeptical of the early review I did find.”

I've owned both, yes the processors on the 3D sets are usually better quality and I have noticed that the picture is usually crisper and the longevity is better on the vivid quality overall time wise. Obviously this is just an opinion but I'm pretty tech savvy and can build PCs and tune my own gear. I would get the 3D if you can afford it and like viewing it that way, otherwise, I wouldn't, pure preference.
