Hello Tundramac, The red and white female plugs you mentioned are the audio inputs of the composite (av) port. These audio plugs are non-reversible and cannot be used to connect the headphone's RCA type cables. Unfortunately, most new tvs do not have analog RCA audio out plugs or even a headphone jack. To use your headphones, you need a digital-to-analog converter (DAC) with RCA right and left audio outputs (red and white). Some converters include a 3.5 mm headphone output as well. The DAC typically has a digital optical cable (Toslink) input. Some have an hdmi (arc) input instead. If you have a sound device connected to the tv's optical digital audio out port and want to connect the DAC to the same port, you will need an optical audio splitter to split the output signal to both devices. Some DACs are powered by a USB-Type A plug which can be connected directly to the tv's USB port or a 2-port usb power block. Others have a two prong power cord. Once you connect the DAC to the tv and the headphone's transmitter, make sure to set the optical audio out to PCM in the tv sound settings.
