Only if you want to get 'local programs' on it, otherwise all you need is to have it hooked up to the internet and subscribe to an app such as Netflix, Hulu, etc. Then the world is yours. Happy Streaming,

If you have internet the tv comes with apps like Netflix Disney+, Hulu, Roku etc. so if you don’t want cable you have other options

No, you do not have to have a cable provider to use this TV. Model 55NANO75UPA has built in tuners ATSC and Clear QAM. ATSC is used to receive digital channels over the air. QAM is used to receive digital channels from a cable TV provider without use of a cable box. ^Daphane
