• Absolutely! LG claims that the "magic remote" is compatible with your Direct TV set top box so you can use it to control DTV functions. I haven't been able to test it because I'm a cable cutter...

• Yes I use mine with DirecTV. The 4k upgrade is free -- they install a new dish and a new box to show the growing catalogue of native 4K content. Netflix also has native 4K content with the premium package.
