Hi Cos. The Ethernet port on the LG C8PUA 4K HDR Smart OLED TV w/ AI ThinQ® - 65" Class (64.5" Diag), Model # OLED65C8PUA supports speeds of 10 or 100 megabits per second. Until recently, most home routers also supported those speeds. However, Gigabit routers have become more common and while the old-fashioned Cat 5 cable is no longer a recognized standard, technically, it supports gigabit speeds, but not very well. Cat 6 is full-on certified to handle Gigabit speeds as does Cat 6a with the difference being that Cat 6a supports bandwidth frequencies of up to 500 MHz, twice the amount of Cat6 cable and that it can support 10Gbps at 100 meters while Cat 6 can transmit the same speeds at up to 37 meters. Cat6 and Cat6a cables might provide bandwidth beyond that currently needed by residential and small business customers, but the trend in technology is towards greater use of bandwidth, so the investment in higher-grade cables is not a bad idea. You should upgrade your routers or cable modems to be compatible with Cat 6 or Cat 6a cables otherwise you may not be able to take full advantage of the higher bandwidth afforded by the cables if the bottleneck in the network is a slow modem or router. LG Channel Plus will work just fine and will offer free access to premium TV channels alongside internet channels (IP Channels) which are available both as live and on-demand. You can get 150 free IP channels including movies & TV, breaking news, epic fails, stand-up comedy, sports, and more integrated right into the TV. You can visit XUMO at https://corp.xumo.com/lg-channel-plus/ for a complete list of Channel Plus powered by XUMO. TVs receive updates because some online service such as YouTube has changed their requirements for devices attaching to their service and as such the TV needs a software update. The changes might not be apparent to you but it could be that in some months time an app becomes unusable because you didn’t take the update. You will need an update if there is some change to the broadcast system happening now or in the future and in order to continue watching channels or to get an improved service. Updates are also done if there is a bug in the TV. The bug may not be critical and you might not encounter it, but occasionally those bugs can be fatal to a device like a TV, and some updates add things like improved energy efficiency or improved HDMI compatibility...^IFV
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. All Ethernet cables with an RJ45 connector will work. The port speed is 100Mbps, but it will of course be limited by your Internet link speed. Software updates will work and are not required. It is difficult to say how content will play with your existing bandwidth. I expect some 4K content will push the limits of your connection.
