“I bought the 65” version of this tv and got it mounted and now I’m thinking of switching to the 77” version. Is the mount the same for both or will the one for the 77” require the old mount be replaced with a new one and need new holes to be drilled?”

I'm not certain if we're allowed to post links here so I'll just say that if you google LG WB20GB (that is the model number of the included flush mount), you should find that they are the exact same version. So you should be ok. The only consideration is making sure the 77" will fit in the same space. The center of the mount is the center of the TV so you should be able to find this out pretty easily. I have the 77" wall-mounted version with the included mount and I've been very happy.
