No, you could hook it up to a receiver and use it as a CD player that just also happens to play DVD's. Given the cost of many CD players geared towards a home audio/stereo system this certainly comes across as an excellent option if only for the price. But in short, no you don't have it hooked up to a TV to play MP3 discs. How a disc is formatted, such as the case is here, and it's playback isn't affected in the least by whether or not it's connected to a TV or not.

The player can be connected to an amplifier. Connect the AUDIO OUTPUT on the unit to 2CH AUDIO IN on amplifier with Audio cable, such as AUDIO Left/Right with white/red. ^Daphane
