Good question. I have both and having a hard time figuring this out. I see that DVD player may not integrate into the Samsung TV directly but may be integrated directly to your input cable service box (I have Comcast) via the red, yellow, and white cables. These cables, other than the power cable, are the only cables that come out of the back of the DVD player. Of course there is the USB port on the front of the DVD player however I do not believe this is used to necessarily view a DVD movie. Still investigating all of this.
