      LG DP132 dvd player

I bought this dvd player, my niece hooked it up, we tried it & it worked. A few weeks later it didn't. Best Buy wouldn't take it back because it was more than 15 days. I sent an email to LG for assistance. They asked if anything showed in the display window when I tried to turn it on. This cheap dvd player doesn't have a display window. It has a thin slot for the dvd, a button to open it, a button to turn it on and a port. I can't reply to the email so I would need to start all over again tomorrow. Just to leave this review I had to create an account. Best Buy can keep their money. LG can keep their money. As the password I had to create says: Iwillnevershopatbestbuyagain

This LG DVD player is a replacement for a Phillips that is approximately 20 years old. The new, LG DVD player plays DVDs that the old player would not even recognize, although there were many DVDs the old machine would play without any problem. But all DVDs that I tested will play with the new machine. When playing JPEG CDs, however, the LG player requires manually advancing the photos one by one; the Phillips player automatically advanced the frames. If that is important to you, it might be best to check with the salesperson to see if there is a way to automatically advance JPEG images recorded on CDs.

I bought this DVD player primarily to listen to audio CD's and occasionally watch a DVD movie. It was relatively easy to set up with my Onkyo receiver, and worked well playing my CD's; however, when I switched to a DVD, it locked up and would not play. I had to turn off the DVD player and then back on for it to correctly read the disc as a DVD ... same thing happened going from DVD to CD. I took it back to Best Buy and traded it for a Samsung DVD player that was priced the same as this LG. The Samsung works perfectly.

Initially I bought an HDMI SONY DVD Player, which I returned shortly after buying as it was not playing a lot of DVD's because of zone, format, etc. This LG Player is great and plays almost 100% of the DVD's that I own and have recorded in the past in different zones and recorders. I use it mostly for playing CD's though. Yes I like retro. I still give it 5 stars, but I wish it had a display that shows time and track (on the machine itself, the UI shows everything). Would have been nice if it had HDMI output. Overall I would recommend this one.

I wanted an inexpensive DVD player to go with my new LG tv. Easy set up, it plays. But they're so inexpensive these days you'd think they'd all come with an HDMI port. Nope! Not this one. HDMI provides better picture quality, especially when used with the new TVs. If you just need a DVD player for an old tv, this is a solid purchase. Otherwise, make sure you read the box and go with the latest and greatest. I'll be returning this one for HDMI capability.

Brand new this thing didn't work right. The images were distorted - elongated vertically on both DVDs used for testing. Then when after I closed the drawer it reopened by itself. This happened 4 times. Finally got it closed and exchanged it for a Sony DVP-SR210P. That's a low-end Sony with no Blu-ray. It's our second one. Works perfectly. FWIW, this LG felt and look badly-made and cheap. I wasn't surprised at all when it failed.

purchased previous dvd for $25 at pawn shop and it worked for 12 years. My wife used for yoga and other exercise videos so just needed basic dvd. When it died I went to Best Buy for a cheap replacement and "cheap" is what I got. It did not connect to Bose system and TV like the previous one so sound is not good and picture is very basic. Only paid $25 so not worth the 40 miles to Best Buy to replace.

We hate to hear you are unhappy with your DVD player. The DP132 has a composite output for connecting to your TV. It does not have other outputs to connect to home theater systems. At $30, found the LG DP132 dvd player to be an excellent buy and value. Being of a certain age, I was reluctant to give up my vcr. This DVD player was an easy transition to new technology. Set up was easy, though instructions could have been more detailed. The illustrated instructions were adequate. This player was completely compatible with my smart tv, was very satisfied with the loading speed and the quality of the picture
