“While playing a DVD can one go forward or backward? I have some DVDs that show a series of sections and the player I have won't go forward to the next in the series and I just have to keep watching the first one over andover.”

That sounds like a formatting issue with the disc. This player has general playback operation to include Playback, Pause, Stop, Skip to the next or previous. Fast forward or fast reverse, Resume playback, Screen Saver and Last Scene Memory. ^Daphane
