We list the hard drive as an M.2 2280 SSD (Solid State Drive) and the interface as SATA3 for the 17Z990-R.AAS8U1, but the M.2 interface is designed to use either Legacy SATA mode or the newer PCI-Express (PCIe) modes and the drive will pick which one to use. The slots in the laptop are labeled as NVMe x 4 and NVMe x 2 so if an NVMe SSD is connected to the slots, NVMe command will be used. ^CP
