“4.1 Channels??? This is frustrating for me to have to ask because I'm a very technical guy but why, for the life of me, am I not able to output sound out of the 4.1 channels? It's always 2.1, no matter what. Can anyone help please?”

They say 4.1 because there are two speakers on either side of the bar, plus the subwoofer which is the .1. The two speakers are not independent channels, though, from what I can tell. I could be wrong, but that seems to be why you can't do what you want.
