“After inserting the disc, why does the movie not begin at the very beginning of the movie but about two minutes into the program? How can I make it begin at the very start of the DVD? The device is a a HDMI.”

It will do this if you've already started watching the movie. It has a memory so you can pick up where you left off. There should be an option if you want to play from the current location or start from the beginning. At least it's that way with Blu-ray discs.
