None of the new LG Tone Platinum models have Aptx or Aptx-HD. The original Tone Platinum HBS-1100 supported APTX-HD and it was this feature that allowed the Bluetooth connection to be indistinguishable from CD quality wired headphones. Apparently LG seems to think that adding a dynamic driver to the new models is somehow going to replicate the quality of what they removed but all that it's going to do is give you a fuller sounding distorted connection. They could put six drivers in each earphone and it wouldn't help. Oddly enough, they managed to double the price. You may be asking yourself how could this possibly be an upgraded version of the original Tone Platinums and the honest answer is that it isn't. In order to put APTX-HD compatibility into a device the manufacturer has to pay a royalty fee and this year LG must have decided to raise the price and put all the profit in the shareholders' pockets. This year's models aren't even in the same league as the originals and we will see if Best Buy is truly the going to be the customers' trusted advisor or LG's partner in profit in their decision on whether to publish my truthful opinion (the results of which will appear in another publication prior to Christmas). This year's models should more appropriately be called the Tone Tins.
