You have to take off the plastic protector

I have had that in the past and Lifeproof said it is nothing to worry about. That being said they have a great warranty and will replace it very quickly if it needs to be.

I had something similar but found out that it was because I still had a screen protector on my screen. Once I took it off, the case closed perfectly.

You are not alone!! That's the only thing that's making me consider exchanging it for another case. If the new one has the same issue, then Houston we may have a problem!! Other than that I love the case.
