• I have an Otterbox. My husband has the Lifeproof. Not much of a difference in the hearing and the muffling. I hope the answer helped.

• It has happened, but I just returned the case for a new one. If Best Buy won't allow a return for whatever reason, the company will. I (knock on wood) haven't had this issue with their newer iPhone cases, but the one for my 4 I had that issue several times. Lifeproof always sent me a new case.
