• Mine works with the cat 5 cables just fine. It should work with cat 6 as well but generally you won't need it.

• cat5 or 6 will work. does not look to be gigabit so cat6 is not needed but can work

• It works well with all Ethernet cables (Cat 5, Cat5e, Cat 6, etc.) with RJ-45 connectors.

• Cat5 will be your best purchase as cat6 is for higher bandwidths than 100 mb.
