I'm not certain - but I CAN tell you that despite indication to the contrary on the packaging, the device did NOT work with my system running Windows Vista. I had an extended exchange with tech support, and was told the the device "Sometimes" works with Windows Vista. Thus, I'd counsel taking with a grain of salt the compatibility claims made by the vendor for the device. If you've the time, I'd suggest giving it a try....Best Buy's return policy will enable you to return the device if it does not work for you. That's what I did.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This is backwards compatible for 802.11x, but I don't know of a windows 98 driver for the hardware. It may be faster than your hardware can handle.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. My guess (that is what it is, since I have not actually tried this combo) is NO. Its not a matter of connection or LAN protocol, but a matter of drivers. I seriously doubt that a Win 98 driver is either preloaded on this adapter or available for download from Linksys.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. No, this requires Windows XP or newer. You will need something like Netgear MA111 802.11b Wireless USB Adapter
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Drivers may be an issue
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes , I had one with an older desktop and worked fine for its price. Is it worth the price to upgrade drivers on the unit or just wait for a sale on a newer system?
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.
