• I used my ipad initially, until we had internet (the ipad worked fine for that) ... then used my desktop simply because it's more convenient.

• Yes, you can let the iPad detect the device's default wireless network and connect to it. Once connected, you can have the iPad access the setup page through the default IP address which is 192.168.1.1
