For security reasons, I would follow instructions to log into the router and change a few things like the administrative passwords. If you use cable service provider (cable modem with Xfinity for example), make sure the cable modem is booted up completely first before connecting this to the cable modem and powering it up. Do this boot up sequence correctly so the AC1200 can get the IP address and DNS from the cable modem
