• Yes. I had to do same thing which is why I turned in modem/router combo from cable company for a telephone only modem, then purchased the router. Speed has more than doubled!

• Hi. The EA7300 router is dependent from any ISP's modem or thru an internet connection from a wall patch. If your phone line provides internet connection when connected straight to your computer via Ethernet Cable, then it should work with this router.
