I don't see why that would be a problem unless it is an absolutely huge distance.

This will work as long as the Ethernet cable goes directly from the modem to the router (and no switches or other network devices in between).

It will work however it be best to use router directly to modem and take advantage of routers security. You’d also be able to use the app to see who’s connected wired or wireless.
