Hi. If your Frontier unit is a combination of Modem and Router, then you may need to acquire a modem as the Linksys MR8300 is a Tri-Band Mesh Router without modem features.

The router is the "hub" that connects all your wired and wireless devices to that Internet connection at once and allows them to talk to one another without having to do so over the Internet. Often, your Internet service provider will give you one box that serves as both modem and router, but they’re still different technologies; not all modems include routers and not all routers have modems. You need both, integrated or not, in order to provide an Internet connection for all the devices in your home. Think of the modem and router as parts of a train with the modem being the locomotive and the router being the first rail car. The router will only go as fast as the locomotive pulling it. Not faster. Then everything you're trying to connect, ie. your pc, smart phone, smart devices all connect to that first rail car travelling at the same speed as the locomotive. So if you're trying to upgrade to a faster connection (broadband, fiber optic, etc.), you need to start with the modem. This is a router. Not a modem. I suggest you contact your internet provider to upgrade your modem. Then something like this would be great as your router.
