“Why is a modem needed?”

• The modem receives the hard wired internet signal from the service provider, (Xfinity, or AT&T, etc...). The router takes the hard wired internet signal from the modem and sends out a wireless signal (WiFi). Sometimes the modem and router can be the same device, but typically they are separate.

• Hi. Our routers and Velop devices are dependent from the internet connection coming from the modem. Our Linksys devices will just spread the internet connection from the modem up to how many devices.
