“Could this unit be set as an access point to main gateway? So that all dhcp is from gateway? I may get nodes later but want everything on same "network" as far as internal up addresses, but I have a ethernet cable going where this would be.”

If you go to a mesh system you won’t need access points. I replaced all my previous Wi-Fi hardware with a 3 node mesh system and compatible router in my 3 level home. Nodes can be connected via Ethernet or wirelessly. I prefer a wired connection to my router where possible. DHCP handled by router. I no longer need access points for good Wi-Fi. One Wi-Fi network with good connectivity throughout. Basement to bedroom, all are great. It wasn’t a cheap upgrade but I’m glad I did it.
